The scripture for today is 1 Corinthians 15:49

1 Corinthians 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Everyone on this rebellious planet has been born with the inherited baggage of a sinful nature. As a result, everyone carries about a frail, decaying mass of flesh that is subject to death. For those who have unregenerate hearts, there is no consolation along the way. So they try to hold on to the passing vanity of youthfulness and vigor, but to no avail. Nothing stops the inevitable creep of decay and demise. It is because we have the image of the earthy. The flesh provides no profit; it is destined to pass away.

But, for the children of God, the same journey takes on a whole new meaning and has an added dimension. The children of God do not pass through this life fretting because of the lessening capacity of the physical body. They realize that they have been “born again” and the life that they now live is not a function of what they are externally, but rather what God has recreated in their hearts. Yes, they too bear the image of the earthy, but that image is not who they are. They have become “new creations” in Christ Jesus and the journey that they are on is not about trying to hold onto appearances and fantasies of the past; they are living in a joyful present, walking hand in hand with their Lord. Instead of despair, they have peace. Instead of fear, they have faith. Instead of worry, they have joy. They have come to know that this life is “but a vapor” and their true life is in Christ. It is life that will never end, never grow old, and never produce backward glances. It is eternal life.

“The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.” 1 Corinthians 15:47 One day soon Jesus is coming and “we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.”  “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2
