2 Peter 3:13
The scripture for today is 2 Peter 3:13
2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
The verses that precede our text for today says: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:10-13
Jesus promised that the meek “shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 He was not speaking of this sin-sick, polluted, and crippled planet. He was speaking of the new earth that He is going to create after this one is burned up. The new earth will be the most glorious place that God has ever created. It will be the place where the holy city, the New Jerusalem, will be located. It will be the place where the throne of God and of the Lamb will be. All of the subjects of His everlasting kingdom will live there and there will be joy forevermore.
Imagine, a place where there is nothing but righteousness, peace, and joy. A place where all of the desires of the righteous followers of Christ will be fulfilled. A place where the joy of the Lord will fill each heart for all eternity. This is a promise that has been made by God and it is as sure as God Himself. Just as surely as Christ our Redeemer was raised from the dead for us, He will come again to receive us unto Himself.
As we actively wait for His appearing, we should begin to rejoice in advance, for the promise is coming. Don’t wait until the battle is over, rejoice now! As an expression of our faith in the promises of God, we offer our praise to Him who has saved us from this sinful world and one day soon will restore us to the sinless condition which mankind was created in the first place. Jesus IS coming and our redemption draws near!
God bless you as you continue in His service.
