The scripture for today is 2 Samuel 7:22

2 Samuel 7:22 Therefore you are great, O LORD God: for there is none like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

King David had it in his heart to build the LORD a tabernacle but God had other plans. Nathan the prophet informed David that he was not the one to build a house for the LORD, but his son Solomon would build the LORD’s house. Moreover, God promised David that “your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: your throne shall be established forever.” 2 Samuel 7:16 David was overwhelmed with the favor that God had bestowed upon him. “Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?” 2 Samuel 7:18

David understood that he was not given this great honor because of his greatness or the greatness of his family. He was a simple boy, watching sheep when the Lord chose him to be king over His people. From those humble beginnings, God raised David up to be the most honored man in Israel. From his lineage would come the Messiah, the One whose throne would be established forever. It was not because of David’s pedigree, skill, education, or wisdom that God chose him. It was because of his simplicity and humble heart that God chose to use him in the most powerful way. “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. 1 Corinthians 1:27

In these last days, God has chosen us to be His dwelling place. Yes, we may be simple and unassuming people, but the God who created the world and all that is in it has chosen to tabernacle with us. The promise that God made to David is fulfilled through the lineage that led to Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords. That King lives in our hearts. This is a greater miracle than that which David experienced. It should lead us to the same contemplation and deep gratitude that David expressed. “Who am I, O Lord God…that you have brought me thus far?” Thank God for His matchless grace.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
