The scripture for today is Colossians 4:6

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.

Our words convey the condition of our hearts to everyone who hears us. While it is possible to engage in deceptive communications, eventually what is inside of us will come out. When our hearts are filled with the Spirit of Christ, it will eventually become obvious to those who hear the words we speak. Our words will convey the same Spirit that resides within our hearts. It does not take too long to realize the kind of person you are talking with; their words are always an indicator. God desires His children to reflect who He is. He has already determined that everyone who truly receives Him will "be conformed to the image of His Son." Romans 8:29

Of all of the characteristics of Christ, His speech was the most distinctive. When officers were sent to arrest Jesus, they returned without Him and declared to those who sent them, "No man ever spoke like this Man!" John 7:46 Christ is our example in all things, and to allow His Spirit to control our tongues is the only way to fulfill the directive given to us in scripture. We cannot tame the tongue, but a heart surrendered to Christ has supernatural help. Through Christ we can speak what is edifying, pertinent, instructive, and useful. As we look to Him our words will not be tasteless and without profit but, like well-seasoned food, wholesome encouragement to all who hear. "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver." Proverbs 25:11

As we are in Christ, He will be in us; He will bear us up in our places of weakness and enable us to move beyond our natural limitations. We want to speak words that bring life; those words come from Him.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
