Ecclesiastes 1:4
The scripture for today is Ecclesiastes 1:4
Ecclesiastes 1:4 One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth abides forever.
Our life here is short and we leave the natural world to continue as it did before we arrived. The infrastructure of the earth that maintained our existence will continue to maintain the existence of generation after generation.
Man’s sin led to the temporary state of our earthly journey. It is brief and its brevity cannot be changed. “Men continue but for one, and that a short age, and then they leave all their possessions, and therefore they cannot be happy here, because happiness must needs be unchangeable and eternal; or else the certain knowledge of the approaching loss of all these things will rob a man of solid contentment in them. Through all successive generations of men; and therefore man is more mutable than the very earth upon which he stands, and which, together with all the comforts which he enjoyed in it, he leaves behind to be possessed by others.” John Wesley “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” 1 Timothy 6:7
Given the stark reality of the human condition, mankind finds solace in attempting to improve the world and leave it better than he found it. Those efforts are usually misguided and end up with mankind providing more conveniences for himself but leaving the earth, not in a better condition, but a worse one.
Thankfully, God has a better plan for man. He has made provision for all mankind to inherit eternal life. Through Christ Jesus, the circle of death has been changed; natural death is no longer just the pathway to eternal death. Jesus took that penalty upon Himself, once for all, so that all who would accept His sacrifice as atonement for their sin could move from death to life, eternal life. In addition, God has given us the promise of a new earth, a home that will not be polluted by sin and, along with its inhabitants, will never pass away. No longer will one generation give way to the next, for all who are in God’s kingdom will live throughout all eternity, praising the Creator and Savior, and enjoying the riches of His new earth.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
