The scripture for today is Ephesians 4:32

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

At the root of rude and vengeful behavior is pride. Pride causes us to see ourselves as justified in our actions, regardless of the impact those actions may have on others. Additionally, in that prideful state, an offense is marked as an attack upon our person even if it is something unintentional or done in ignorance. A prideful heart is the very opposite of the heart of God and in no way reflects the humility of Christ. Kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, and graciousness are traits of the person whose heart is not ruled by pride. Such a heart has been transformed by the presence of the Spirit of Christ.

“Be ye kind one to another. This sets forth the principle of love in the heart, and the outward expression of it, in humble, courteous behavior. Mark how God's forgiveness causes us to forgive. God forgives us, although we had no cause to sin against him. We must forgive, as he has forgiven us. All lying, and corrupt communications, that stir up evil desires and lusts, grieve the Spirit of God. Corrupt passions of bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil-speaking, and malice, grieve the Holy Spirit.” Matthew Henry

The highest desire of a child of God is to be like Christ. The attributes that He brings into our lives cannot be replicated through human effort. He requires a humble and surrendered heart to work through. May He find such a place in each of our hearts and may our lives reflect His presence there.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
