Genesis 3:20
The scripture for today is Genesis 3:20
Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
“This verse … shows that Adam believed the promise with regard to the woman’s seed and manifested this faith in the name that he now gave to his wife. Eve means “life.” She was the mother. Adam gave the name “the living one” to his wife in faith, seeing in her the “mother of all living” at a time when his death sentence had just been pronounced. Also, he looked beyond the grave and saw in the seed promised to his wife the One who would restore to him and his descendants the immortality they had forfeited that day. Instead of calling her in gloom and despair—as could be expected under the circumstances—“the mother of all doomed,” he fastened his eye in faith upon his Judge, and, before she even gave birth to her first-born, called her, hopefully, “the living one.” Faith was indeed to him “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). The SDA Bible Commentary Vol. 1, p.235
Adam, even in his fallen state, had the insight to focus on the provision of God rather than the now fallen nature of his flesh. Therefore, he called his wife “Life.” He looked forward to life and did not embrace death. In his heart, even though he had failed God, he knew that God was still his hope. God covered them in garments of skin; an animal had been sacrificed on their behalf; blood had been shed for their transgression. Christ stepped forward to volunteer to pay the price for their sins and the sacrificial system was put in place immediately. This system of animal sacrifice would continue until the true Lamb of God would come and give His life, not only for Adam and Eve but for all who embrace God’s gift of redemption. Adam looked forward to having the penalty of his transgression cleansed. He wanted his offspring through Eve to be children of “Life” not the victims of the death that he had brought into the race.
The woman, who had been the victim of deception, would be the mother of all living. Life would come through her seed, Jesus Christ, and He would crush the head of the devil. God said to the serpent, “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel." Genesis 3:15 Thank God for His plan of salvation and for the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8
God bless you as you continue in His service.
