Hebrews 10:16
The scripture for today is Hebrews 10:16
Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts and in their minds I will write them.
God wrote His laws on tables of stone at Mt. Sinai. His laws were already in existence and His servants kept them before the Mt. Sinai experience. It is written of Abraham, who lived long before the events at Mt. Sinai, “because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statues, and My laws.” Genesis 26:5 We can readily see that the law of God did not come into existence at Mt. Sinai with Moses, but they have always existed with God and were kept by his servants.
Just as with Abraham, God intended that His laws be kept, but the Israelites turned the Law of God into an external code that was polluted by man’s manipulations. God did not intend that His law be viewed as something that was only a matter of outward compliance; He desired to have a people who loved Him and were drawn into intimate fellowship with Him.
Under the new covenant, God comes to live not just among us but to live within us. He comes into our hearts and with Him comes His Moral Law. He writes His law within our hearts so that it is possible for us to live a life of love for God in full understanding of His character. We are empowered to live a life of love and obedience, not by our own strength but because we have Christ living in our hearts. He lives out His life in us as we surrender our wills to Him. We do not struggle to be holy; His presence makes us holy.
This new life is not one that can be “faked.” Only God can write His law in our hearts and only God can empower us to live a life of love and faith, walking, talking, and loving like Jesus. When His law is written in our hearts, we will resemble the One who inscribed His character within us. God will not force Himself upon anyone, but anyone who surrenders his heart to Him will be changed to be like Him; “into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
God bless you as you continue in His service.
