The scripture for today is John 4:24

John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.

In our text today we find that God is Spirit. In 1 John 1:5, we find that God is Light. In 1 John 4:8, we find that God is Love. We see through these descriptions of God our Father, that He is not physical, but Spiritual; He is eternal and exists everywhere at all times; there is no darkness in Him because He is Light; there is no fault in Him for He is Love. He is infinite and possesses all of the attributes that comprise His holiness and is beyond human comprehension except through faith.

“There is a God, the cause of all things - the fountain of all perfection - without parts or dimensions, for he is Eternal - filling the heavens and the earth - pervading, governing, and upholding all things: for He is an infinite Spirit! This God can be pleased only with that which resembles himself: therefore He must hate sin and sinfulness; and can delight in those only who are made partakers of His own Divine nature. As all creatures were made by Him, so all owe Him obedience and reverence; but, to be acceptable to this infinite Spirit, the worship must be of a spiritual nature - must spring from the heart, through the influence of the Holy Ghost: and it must be in Truth, not only in sincerity, but performed according to that Divine revelation which He has given men of Himself. A man worships God in spirit, when, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, he brings all his affections, appetites, and desires to the throne of God; and he worships Him in truth, when every purpose and passion of his heart, and when every act of his religious worship, is guided and regulated by the word of God.” Adam Clarke

Jesus, in His discourse with the Samaritan woman at the well, enlightened her uninformed and indoctrinated mind about the truth of worship. She was focused on the mechanics of worship, time, and location, while Jesus directed her to the essence of worship which is in Spirit. He told her, “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship Him.” John 4:23

Holiness separates the children of God from the world. Holiness also separates true worshipers from the counterfeits, those who would embrace the world while pretending to offer worship to God. Those who are truly righteous have been to the cross and died there with Christ. They have His righteousness as a garment and worship God in holiness of Spirit.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
