John 6:29
The scripture for today is John 6:29
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.
Jesus gave the most basic answer to those who wanted to know "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" John 6:28 His response shows that doing the work of God is not a function of human effort, it is a function of faith in His Word. When Christ asks us to believe in Him, He is not asking us to simply agree with Him. He is instructing us to have faith in Him, which is to put our trust in Him and to commit our lives to Him completely. From the position of believing, we lay down our fears, worries and concerns and embark on a journey that is not influenced by external conditions but by the Word of God. True faith in God always leads us to honor and obey Him. We trust His Word, even when our natural inclinations tell us to do otherwise. We do so because we believe in Him. Our single pursuit is to please Him and the things which build that primary relationship assumes the place of priority in our lives. We love to pray because it is the place where we communicate with God. Then we leave our place of surrendered prayer to express our love for Him through surrendered obedience.
It is primarily through prayer that we build our relationship with God. It is there where we daily commit our wills to His will. Without a surrendered heart, however, prayer will never lead to obedience. Prayer without obedience leads to spiritual deception. Presumed obedience without prayer leads to the same thing, spiritual deception. God can only work through those who "believe on Him" those who adhere to, trust in and rely upon Him completely. God is not calling us to do things, He is calling us to surrender to Him so that He can do things through us. Christ is our example, He left us a perfect path to follow in surrendering to the will of God. Let us therefore, "believe on Him whom He has sent."
God bless you as you continue in His service.
