Mark 4:24
The scripture for today is Mark 4:24
Mark 4:24 Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.
“There are some things the Christian had best not hear or see; there are other things that it is wise for him to “hear.” The SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 5, pp. 599-600 What we hear, that is what we pay attention to, will invariably determine our behavior. Often what we hear is not determined by the words being spoken, but by who is speaking the words or some other factor that determines our receptivity to what is being spoken. The tone and tenor of our lives are determined by the way we process the information that comes through our senses. If we reject that which is good and embrace that which is not in our best interest, our lives will ultimately bear the consequences of our decisions.
How we hear will determine how we give for we impart to others is based on what we perceive. And how we give will determine what we receive. Giving and receiving are inseparably connected and the whole process begins with how we hear. “The measure we give will be the measure we receive, for injustice provokes injustice. More than that, the injustice of one man toward his fellow men provokes divine judgment, as Jesus taught in the parable of the Unforgiving Servant (Matt. 18:23–35). We may condemn the offense, but, like God, we must ever be ready to forgive the offender. We can extend mercy to the offender without in any way condoning the evil he may have done.” The SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 5, p. 355
Hearing the clear words of the Savior is the only path to a life of fulfillment. His word must not be challenged, changed, or discarded. Jesus said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63 May we hear the words of the Spirit and may we receive the life that they bring. May we share that life with others, giving all that we have to give.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
