Matthew 3:11
The scripture for today is Matthew 3:11
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire.
John's ministry was a ministry of repentance, pointing the people to Christ the Redeemer. John baptized, in water, those who came to him in repentance. While this baptism was significant, John indicated that it was not enough. John directed the people to Christ for another baptism; the baptism in the Holy Spirit. He recognized the need not only for repentance, but also for the power of God, the fire of the Holy Spirit, to live in the hearts of those who come to Christ. Baptism in water is a significant event in the life of a believer and it can be done God's ministers. The baptism in the Holy Spirit can only be done by God; He is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.
Today, more than ever, we need the baptism in the Holy Spirit. The forces of darkness and deception are fighting desperately to control the minds and actions of God's people. We have no power on our own to combat these spiritual forces. It is only by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit that we can stand victorious in these last days. The early church needed and received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The remnant church in the last days will need Him even more. Let us pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and daily come before the Father requesting a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit's power.
"What we need is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Without this, we are no more fitted to go forth to the world than were the disciples after the crucifixion of their Lord." Ellen White, Review and Herald, Feb. 18, 1890 "Impress upon all the necessity of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the sanctification of the members of the church, so that they will be living, growing, fruit-bearing trees of the Lord's planting." Ellen White, Testimonies Vol. 6, p.86 Jesus, who gave His life for us, wants to live His life through us by His indwelling Holy Spirit. Let's ask for His Holy Spirit and let us ask believing. "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?" Luke 11:13
God bless you as you continue in His service.
