Matthew 7:16
The scripture for today is Matthew 7:16
Matthew 7:16 You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
False prophets are distinguishable by the fruit they bear. While many will rise up in the last days claiming to be something great, Jesus said that you will know those who are His by the fruit they produce. Thorns and thistles do not produce fruit that is good for eating. In fact, they produce nothing edible at all. "To expect that devout and holy lives would be produced by false religious teaching, is like looking for grapes to grow upon a thorn bush." Abbott New Testament Commentary "Men do not judge of a tree by its leaves, or bark, or flowers, but by the fruit which it bears. The flowers may be handsome and fragrant; the foliage thick and green; but these are merely ornamental. It is the fruit that is of chief service to man; and he forms his opinion of the nature and value of the tree by their fruit." Albert Barnes
The aspiration of every man and woman of God is to bear good fruit. This fruit comes from the very Spirit of God. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith." Galatians 5:22 The evidence of the presence of God is not so much in what we say, it is in the fruit that is produced in our lives. When the fruit of the Holy Spirit is produced in a life, the life of God is shared with all who interact with that life. It is from the very Spirit of Christ that fruit is produced and that fruit has life giving qualities; not only for the one who is bearing it but also for those who are touched by the fruit bearing life. We all may not be prophets, but we all can bear fruit. May the fruit that we bear bring life to us and to all those we touch.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
