Philippians 4:6-7
The scripture for today is Philippians 4:6-7
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Clearly God does not want us to be anxious about the things of this life. This, of course, does not mean that we are to be indifferent and uncaring people, but rather that we should rest in our dependence upon God and His resources. There is to be such confidence in God that our minds are freed from anxiety. We are to trust God for everything; He is the source of our supply. "There is nothing which pertains to body, mind, estate, friends, conflicts, losses, trials, hopes, fears, in reference to which we may not go and spread it all out before the Lord." Albert Barnes
Through prayer we discharge all of our care upon Him who is greater than any need that we may have. It is through faith in the Word of God that we have the assurance that whatever our need is He will supply. "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 Of our own resources, we never seem to have enough; but we are not dependent upon our resources. Our needs are supplied from the resources of God; He is more than enough. We do not come to Him as strangers "begging;" we come to Him as His children, with thanksgiving in our hearts. We are thankful because we know that He loves us. We are thankful because we have a place of refuge in the time of crises. He not only redeemed us, He also watches over us. He knows our needs even before we ask Him and He stands ready to deliver us as we come to Him in faith.
When we make our request known to the Lord, we are not supplying Him with new information. God does not need to be informed of our needs, but He requires that we come and express them to Him. We are acknowledging Him as our source and confessing our dependence upon Him to supply what we need. As we place our needs into the hands of a loving God, we can rest assured that He will answer our petitions and supply what is needed most. God never ignores the prayers of His children. "Not because we see or feel that God hears us are we to believe. We are to trust in His promises. When we come to Him in faith, every petition enters the heart of God. When we have asked for His blessing, we should believe that we receive it, and thank Him that we have received it. Then we are to go about our duties, assured that the blessing will be realized when we need it most. When we have learned to do this, we shall know that our prayers are answered. God will do for us "exceeding abundantly," "according to the riches of His glory," and "the working of His mighty power." Ephesians 3:20, 16; 1:19. Ellen White, Desire of Ages, p 200 When our trust is fully in Him, His peace "will keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
God bless you as you continue in His service.
