The scripture for today is Proverbs 16:16

Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

God’s ways are diametrically opposed to the ways of the world, and the things that are valued by His children are things that reflect His heart. Our text today presents an example. To the world, gold or riches are the attraction, but wisdom and understanding are much more desirable in the estimation of God.

This error in thinking is a function of misplaced values. To many, money is the answer for everything. The more money you have, therefore, the better off you are. In God’s economy, wisdom and understanding are priceless. This presents a dilemma for those with misplaced values. Eventually, they come to realize that what they thought would bring fulfillment ultimately fails, leaving them empty and devoid of happiness. Often, too late, they realize that money is not the answer to everything, and the older you become, the more pronounced that realization is. It cannot buy you happiness, joy, health, or true friends.  The Bible tells us that, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

“Happy is the man that finds wisdom and the man that gets understanding. For the gain from it is better than the gain from silver, and the profit thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retains her.” Proverbs 3:13-18

God is the only source for the fulfillment of our true needs. When we realize that we were created by God to be in fellowship with Him, we will begin our pursuit of wisdom and understanding. As we earnestly pursue the Creator of all things, He imparts His wisdom and understanding into our hearts. We find that all that we need has been provided by God in Christ Jesus. “But of Him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” 1Corinthians 1:30 “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:9

When we are in Christ and He in us, we pursue the things of God, and those things are imparted to us. His wisdom and understanding are ours in Christ. They are more to be desired than silver and gold.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
