Proverbs 2:3-5
The scripture for today is Proverbs 2:3-5
Proverbs 2:3-5 Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Silver and gold are often used in scripture to help our understanding of the value of spiritual things. While these earthly elements are valued highly by the world, true riches are found in God alone. Finding silver or gold requires a process of searching, digging and separating in order to acquire the treasure that is often hidden from the naked eye. The treasure that is found is considered of more value than the work and effort that is expended in acquiring it. The knowledge of the Lord is much more valuable than silver and gold, and the process of acquiring it is much less stressful. God gives wisdom and knowledge to all who seek him in sincerity. "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me." Proverbs 8:17
While the process of acquiring earthly wealth can produce adverse effects on both mind and body, the process of finding the riches of heaven invigorates the soul and results in lasting joy. "Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. For the gain from it is better than the gain from silver, and the profit thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her." Proverbs 3:13-15
It is our love for God and His Word that motivates us to seek Him. Apart from His love, all of our efforts are vain. The psalmist wrote "Therefore I love your commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold." Psalms 119:127 Because we love Him, our desire of Him is to "Show me your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths." Psalms 25:4 As we seek Christ, the living Word, we will find riches beyond anything that this world has to offer. Understanding this truth will move us from a focus on acquiring the earthly riches to seeking the eternal riches that come from God alone. "And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." 1 John 5:20
God bless you as you continue in His service.
