Psalms 145:8
The scripture for today is Psalms 145:8
Psalms 145:8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.
This description of the nature of God was also given by God to Moses in Exodus 34:6-7. It is a prevailing theme throughout scripture. Without question, God is good! “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.” Psalms 103:8 “He has made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.” Psalms 111:4 “But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us.” Ephesians 2:4
God is gracious to everyone on earth. He treats mankind with kindness, without which all humanity would be in jeopardy continuously. Through His word, His promises, His gift of salvation, and His grace are manifested. “There is nothing suspicious, diced, morose, tyrannical, or unapproachable in Jehovah, -- He is condescending and kind. And full of compassion.” The Treasury of David
These supernatural qualities of God stem from the love of God. It is out of His love that the grace and forbearance of God emanate. To the guilty and those who refuse His grace, God is long-suffering and continues to extend His kindness and love to draw them. Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, “neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.” John 8:11 Our sin may be great but God’s mercy is greater. “Love suffers long and is kind.” 1 Corinthians 13:4 To the guilty who come to Him in repentance, grace, and forgiveness will be found; always.
It is a great privilege to serve our Heavenly Father who provides, through His word, a clear picture of His character and nature. He does not ask us to surrender to fear; He invites us to surrender to His love. As we surrender our lives to Him, He recreates us into His image. For it is Christ in us who is the reflection of the character of God. God's desire is to show Himself to the world through us as He did through Christ. May His character and holy nature be continuously reflected in the people He calls His own.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
