Psalms 40_8
December 28
Happy Friday Everyone,
The scripture for today is Psalms 40:8
Psalms 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
In context, the speaker of these words would be Christ Himself, for in verse seven He says "Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me." Christ came as the embodiment and expression of God's law and love. He fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law and then for our sakes became the sacrifice for sin that the law required. The penalty for sin, which is death, has been paid by the sacrifice of Christ. It is no longer necessary to offer animals and their blood for our sins. Jesus shed His blood once and for all, for the atonement of sin, for everyone that will receive it.
Under the New Covenant God writes His law in our hearts for we are intended to be like Christ. The difference between the Old Covenant, which was before Christ came, and the New Covenant, which is after His sacrifice, is not that God has erased His righteous requirements, rather it is that He has made it possible for His righteous requirements to be fulfilled in our lives. "But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jeremiah 31:33
We are His people and we keep the righteous requirements of His moral law because He has made it possible; He has written His law, which is the reflection of His character, in our hearts. Out of love for Him we embrace all that is His and surrender our lives so that His life can be lived through us.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
