Psalms 61_1-3
November 24
Happy Sabbath Everyone,
The scripture for today is Psalms 61:1-3
Psalms 61:1-3 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
In ancient times, strong towers were erected along the city walls. These towers were constructed to be impregnable and afforded the best vantage point from which to repel the attacks of the enemy. In times of peril, the people of the city could flee to the strong tower for safety. Jesus is our strong tower. When we take refuge in Him it is impossible for any enemy to conquer us. We, however, have to come to Him and into Him in order to secure His protective strength. The greater the adversity, the greater our need to find shelter in Christ. Jesus said "All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37 If we come to Him in truth, He will receive us, and if He receives us, we are safe in Him.
When we are in Christ, the cares of this world cease to be a burden to us for we leave our burdens at the entrance to His heart. As we enter Him, He enters us and He brings His perfect peace with Him. We are no longer alone and exposed to the enemy. We are sheltered in Christ, we are secure in Christ, we have a new life in Christ. He who is "higher than I" has secured victory for us. The enemy, who tormented us in the past, is outside looking at his own defeat. Yes, we were weak but now in Christ, we have been made strong. We are strong, not in our strength, but in the power of His might. He is all the shelter we will ever need.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
